General Employment Policy (GEP) for Hong Kong

The Hong Kong Employment Visa allows foreign nationals to work legally in Hong Kong. It is issued by the Immigration Department under the Special Administrative Region Government. To obtain an employment visa, applicants need to secure a job offer from a local employer and fulfil certain eligibility criteria.

Below are the key essential in applying for an employment visa in Hong Kong:

  1. Clean Record: You must not have any criminal records or security objections.
  2. Educational Background: Ideally, you should have an undergraduate degree in the relevant field. If you lack an undergraduate degree, you can provide evidence of strong technical qualifications, relevant professional skills, achievements, and work experience.
  3. Job Availability: There must be a legitimate job vacancy within the employing company.
  4. Confirmed Job Offer: You need to have a confirmed offer of employment that aligns with your academic qualifications or work experience. The job should not be easily filled by the local workforce.
  5. Remuneration Package: The offered remuneration package, which includes salary, accommodation, medical benefits, and other perks, should be in line with the prevailing market standards in Hong Kong.

For Employment Visa application, you need to provide the following visa required documents:

  1. Completed Employment Visa Application Form.
  2. Copy of the personal particulars page of your passport. If you’re currently in Hong Kong, include a copy of the passport page with the latest arrival stamp or extension of stay label.
  3. Copy of your Hong Kong identity card (if applicable).
  4. Proof of your overseas residence.
  5. Proof of academic qualifications and relevant work experience.

Note:

If the employing company has obtained an employment or training visa/entry permit for a non-local staff member within the past 18 months before submitting the application, the mentioned company documents (except the application form for employing professionals) do not need to be resubmitted.

All documents submitted must be in English or Chinese, or they must be translated into English or Chinese by a certified translation body.

The Immigration authorities retain the right to request additional documents from the applicant or the employing company when deemed necessary.
